More Timber Shots

Well the pace has slowed again and I'm exhausted. Having to work all day and timberframing at night is a bit of a drag but the work goes on steadily if slowly. At this point I'm a bit better than half way through the joinery for the frame and with a long weekend ahead I'm hopeful that I'll have another large chunk bitten off. Timberframing is exhausting; especially now that I'm out of the 6x8s and into the 8x8s. The mallet is heavy, the saw is ridiculous and I'm now sleeping with icepacks... but I wouldn't change it. The process is actually quite rewarding and I'm learning a lot about the tools and the wood as I go. Here are some new pics of the progress so far. These include fitting a housed brace, some mortices and a look at the beams now that they've been treated. We really wanted to live in a barn, or at least make our house out of barn beams. When that didn't pan out we decided to treat our posts and beams with a preservative that encourages wood to take on a "weathered" patina over time. They should mature with brown, gray and silver tones.
